Self Care Awareness Month: September 2018
September is Self Care Awareness Month and the perfect time to challenge each other in a couple different ways.
I'd like to ask you to define what self care means both for and to you, and to think about how to incorporate more self-care into your daily life/routine.
I am a firm believer in the practice of self care because it's a way to remind yourself that your needs are important too; take the time to nurture yourself. So often we think of self care as being selfish when in reality it's actually quite the opposite. If we don’t nourish ourselves then we can’t be fully available for those we love.
What is Self Care:
Self care is knowing what YOU need to make your life better so this will be different for each of us based on our individual needs and desires.
Ways to Practice Self Care:
Honestly, self care doesn’t have to be big things, so don't let it overwhelm you. Start with something small that takes minimal effort but will have a profound effect on how you feel. Even if you only have five minutes, start there and determine what will spark joy for you, and do something daily that will make you happy.
In super simple terms, self care= self love. An action you take to better your physical, mental, and emotional health.
My challenge to you is this:
💓Set an intention. (ex: I will honor myself with daily self care to nourish my mind, body, and spirit.) Decide the amount of time you can dedicate to your self care routine. You can always modify as you go.
💓Find a mantra for yourself (ex: I am worthy of good things. It is okay to want the best for myself and pursue things that bring me joy and happiness.)
💓Start today; take time to honor yourself. You deserve it.
